Five top bars to visit in Manchester this summer

If you’re looking to sample a cocktail or two, or just want to sit back and relax in some wondrous surroundings, we’ve rounded up our five favourite bars in Manchester to visit this summer. 

The Anthologist

Having only opened 12 months ago, The Anthologist has quickly established itself as one of the best cocktail bars in Manchester. Located at One, St Peter's Square, The Anthologist is owned by London bar chain, Drake and Morgan.

Watch the world go by with a seat in the outside terrace and enjoy alfresco dining. You can expect lavish interiors, quirky cocktails and a relaxed setting in this all-day bar.

And, for dog lovers, there’s even a ‘Yappy Hour’ on Sunday’s between 2pm and 4pm, where guests are encouraged to bring their dogs for complimentary Pawsecco and treats. Plus, if you book a table, you’ll receive 15% off food. What’s not to like?

20 Stories

Situated in the heart of Spinningfields, step into this lavishly decorated bar and restaurant. With sweeping views of the city, you’ll be able to soak up the glorious Manchester skyline, so get your panoramic shots at the ready.

20 Stories is in the hub of No. 1 Spinngfields on the 19th floor, and features a restaurant, cocktail bar and rooftop terrace for the sunny Manchester evenings. The extensive list of cocktails pay homage to the city’s heritage, so sit back and relax in this glamourous setting with a tipple or two.


Impossible is one of the many bars situated in the Great Northern Warehouse. With three bars to choose from, you’re spoilt for choice. Take a pew in one of the seats in the outdoor bar and terrace which backs on to Deansgate, perfect for drinks in the sunshine. Plus, in the summer, pop-up bars allow you to sample the many different spirits on offer.

If you’re after something a little different, the downstairs bar features entertainment from 6pm til late on Wednesday to Saturday’s, and if you want to make a night of it on a weekend, the Impossible Theatre transforms to a nightclub open until 4am on Saturday’s, where you can expect weird and wonderful performances.

And, for the gin fanatics, the upstairs bar is a dedicated Gin Nest – an intimate space with plush booths and cosy sofas, which is open on Thursday to Sunday. With over 97 gins and 14 pairing tonics to choose from, this is the ultimate bar for gin lovers. But, be sure to book to avoid disappointment.


A cool and stylish bar in the trendy Northern Quarter, located in a Grade II listed building. Tucked away behind Piccadilly, Cottonopolis offers a unique experience boasting quirky cocktails, delicious food and a DJ too.

The Japanese inspired menu will surely get your taste buds tingling, so be sure to pop by and soak up the atmosphere.

Science and Industry

A unique speakeasy located in the Northern Quarter and is a seating only cocktail lounge with table service. This hidden gem is tucked away in the upstairs of Cane & Grain, and is adorned with wood panelled walls and antique glassware.

Experienced bartenders will be able to whip up a different beverage and its dedicated drinks laboratory allows the servers to concoct exotic cocktails that will stimulate your senses.
