How to beat Christmas stress

Christmas is one of the busiest times of the year and although the number of colleagues in your office may be depleting as the big day draws nearer, the workload doesn’t. And, if that isn’t all, the annual present buying for the never ending list of people can be equally as stressful.

We’ve rounded up our five tips on how you can get ahead of the game this season, and stay on top of your workload and social life.

Plan Ahead

It may sound simple, but actually relatively few people do manage to plan ahead. When thinking about your workload, try and fit in meetings with people who may be off while you need to get tasks done, so they can answer any questions you may have.

The one good thing about the Christmas period is the number of people who are out of the office, so you’re able to get the little tasks done that you haven’t gotten round to doing.

The simple way to plan ahead is…create a list. This will help you organise your workload, present buying, organising your Christmas party, food shops etc. You can buy a list planner from any stationery shop, but if you don’t want to splash the cash, a simple notepad and pen will do the trick.

Online Shopping

Try and save time where you can, as it will allow you to focus on the bigger tasks that you have over Christmas.

Over the Christmas period, shops are usually getting quite crowded making it even more difficult to navigate the local shopping centre. This is where online shopping is a godsend, as you can find quirky and personalised gifts for your office Secret Santa or your loved one.

Take A Break

Without sounding like a broken record, take time out for yourself and focus on what really needs to be done before you break up for Christmas.

Realistically, if you can’t get something done, don’t break your neck trying to. The chances are, no one is going to look at it until January anyway, so return to it with fresh eyes in the New Year.

We all know Christmas time means counting the pennies, but if you budget in advance it can help minimise stress that the season brings with it. Try budgeting apps such as Yolt or Tandem – you connect your bank account and it will recommend where you can save, which is particularly helpful during one of the most expensive times of the year.

Christmas Movie Night

‘Tis the season to be jolly, but it isn’t really Christmas until you watch a seasonal chick flick or wholesome family drama. Unwind with a tipple or two and get yourself full of festive cheer.
