Awards success for Emirates Old Trafford

Lancashire Cricket is delighted to announce that the Club has won ‘Best Non-Match Day use of Venue’ and Bronze in ‘Best Match Day Use of Venue’ at the 2019 Sports Business Awards, whilst also being shortlisted for the category, ‘Best Sports Event of the Year – UK’.

The accolade celebrates the success of the ‘Ultimate Concert Packages’, which were unique ticket inclusive hospitality packages launched for the Liam Gallagher concert in 2018.

The package, was a UK first at a sports venue and offered fans the chance to watch the ex-Oasis frontman from the comfort of their own hotel room at the stadium’s on-site four-star Hilton Garden Inn. It provided guests with a unique viewpoint in which to watch the concert, from the luxury of their own stage facing balcony, as well as an overnight stay in the award winning hotel.

The experience also included a complimentary fridge stocked with beer, wine and soft drinks, a welcome hamper of treats on arrival, a choice of evening meal which guests could enjoy in their room, and a full buffet breakfast for two the following morning in the Garden Grille and bar.

Michael Hewson, General Manager at the Hilton Garden Inn Emirates Old Trafford, commented: “We’re delighted to have won the award for our unique hospitality packages, particularly as it was the first concert that the hotel had seen since opening in 2017.

“The hotel has gone from strength to strength during that time, and the award is testament to everyone at Lancashire Cricket who excelled in delivering guests a brilliant evening.

“All of the packages sold out, as they offered fans an unrivalled experience and provided a unique opportunity to soak up the atmosphere from the comfort of a private balcony.”

The Club also won Bronze for the category ‘Best Match-Day Use of Venue’, for the Vitality Blast rivalry fixture of Lancashire Lightning versus Yorkshire Vikings.

In 2018, the Club welcomed the biggest ever attendance in domestic T20 cricket (excluding Finals Day) outside of London, at 22,515, growing from 19,500 in 2017. The rivalry between Lancashire and Yorkshire is one of the fiercest in cricket going back over 150 years which started during the famous War of the Roses.

The fixture between the two sides at Emirates Old Trafford has become one of the showcase matches in domestic cricket in England and is a game that has seen progressive year-on-year growth in both ticket and hospitality sales, and the award recognised the growth and achievement of the Club over the years.

The Sports Business Awards celebrate the influence of business within sport rewarding teams and individuals who make sporting success possible.

Commenting on the award, Chief Executive, Daniel Gidney, said: “We’re delighted to have won the award for Best Non-Match Day Use of Venue, and awarded Bronze for Best Match-Day Use of Venue. The Club has a desire and vision to be the best, and these awards are testament to the success of our staff and team.”

The awards follow on from the Club’s recent success, where the hotel was championed ‘Loved By Guests 2018’ in the Hotel.Com awards, and the upcoming Conference Awards, where Emirates Old Trafford is shortlisted for Best Conference Venue.
