The best events in Manchester this June

Manchester is one of the most vibrant cities in the UK, so there’s never a shortage of exciting events taking place in and around the city centre.

Whether you’re looking for an art exhibition, want to try new culinary experiences at one of the newest pop up restaurants or relax at a music gig, the city has something for everyone.

Below, we take a look at the top highlights in Manchester that will get you excited this month.

Jenny Walker: Pattern and Resonance Exhibition at HOME

Partnered with the London Road Fire Station, the Pattern and Resonance Exhibition is a collection of wallpaper and ephemera retrieved from London Road Fire Station in Manchester, which explores the relationship between artwork and artefact, pattern and resonance.

Explore a collection of wallpapers that will stimulate the senses and showcase a connection to locational happenings from one of Manchester’s most famous fire stations.

The exhibition is open now and runs until Sunday 21 July. Entry is free and visitors can just drop in.

Manchester Day

Celebrating its tenth year, Manchester Day is an annual event that celebrates Manchester – the city, businesses, culture and the people.

The event features a parade through the city, as well as numerous smaller events including music, dance and other performances at the three city squares – St. Ann’s Square, Exchange Square and the Cathedral Gardens. Tantalise your taste buds with a selection of mouth-watering food from international vendors.

Manchester Day takes place on 23 June from noon until 6pm, and tickets are free.

The Book of Mormon

Enjoy a rendition of Broadway’s smash hit musical, The Book of Mormon, which follows a pair of Mormon boys sent on a mission to a place that’s a long way from their home in Salt Lake City.

The musical, which opened at the Palace Theatre this month, has won nine Tony awards, including Best Musical, and over thirty international awards and is an evening not to be missed.

The Book of Mormon is showing at the Palace Theatre until 24 August. Tickets range from £13 to £80, and are available to buy here.

BBC Philharmonic: Mozart/Mark Simpson/Mahler

Enjoy an evening with Mark Simpson, BBC Young Musician and BBC Composer of the Year, for the world premiere of his Clarinet Concerto.

Leading British soprano Elizabeth Watts joins the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra for three Mozart arias and Mahler’s majestic Fourth Symphony.

The event is taking place at the Bridgewater Hall on 15 June. Tickets start from £12.50 and are available to buy here.

Cirque du Soleil

The internationally renowned Cirque du Soleil returns to Manchester with a new show – Toruk: The First Flight.

A new show inspired by James Cameron’s Avatar, will transport you to the world of Pandora in a visually stunning setting. Experience a storytelling odyssey through a new world of imagination that will invoke your senses.

The Cirque du Soleil are performing at the Manchester Arena from 20 – 23 June. Adult tickets start from £47.50 and are available to buy here.

Magic of Thailand Festival

Indulge yourself with an authentic Thai experience over the two day Magic of Thailand Festival.

Previously known as the Manchester Thai Festival, soak up the traditional Thai culture with exciting performances and ignite your taste buds with world class food. Stop by and unwind with a traditional Thai massage and watch the action unfold with a Muay Thai boxing match.

The Magic of Thailand Festival is at Platt Fields Park on 29 – 30 June, from 10am – 7pm. Advance adult tickets are £4, or £5 on the day and can be bought here.
