How to have yourself a merry Manchester Christmas

The countdown to Christmas is on and, with Manchester getting into the festive spirit, we’re taking a look at what’s on in the area and how you can enjoy the most wonderful time of the year, in our wonderful city!

Manchester Christmas Markets

Did you know that Manchester was first given the right to hold markets all the way back in 1066, by the newly victorious William the Conqueror?

In a congratulatory gesture, he conferred the title of ‘Manor of Manchester’ upon on one of his valued knights – with that right came the privilege of holding markets and fairs.

Centuries later, the Manchester Christmas Markets launched in 1999 as just a single site in St Ann’s Square, and have gone on to win the hearts of people far and wide, attracting millions of visitors each year.

With nearly 350 beautifully festooned stalls and chalets, spanning 10 distinctive sites across the city centre, the Christmas Markets are free and accessible to all.

Now open until the 21st December, why not soak up the atmosphere in the traditional German pubs? Or take a walk past the sprawling market trail, tempting you and your loved ones with European and local products.
