We are very committed to being Green and our recent development plans have incorporated eco-friendly features. The design and build specification of The Point was developed by the internationally-acclaimed architects BDP in order to place sustainability / environmental awareness at its very core. We believe that The Point is one of the ‘greenest’ event facilities in the North West. This has been recognised by receiving the Gold Award from the Green Business Tourism Scheme.

Lancashire Cricket also launched a reusable cup system in a bid to reduce plastic waste at the ground. This initiative was supported by a #TakeMeHome campaign, encouraging fans to take the cups home. Find out more here.

  • Rainwater Harvesting

    Rainwater Harvesting

    Rainwater is collected from the roof of the suite and channelled into storage tanks. This is then used as ‘grey water’ (i.e. toilet flushing etc.) to significantly reduce the mains water consumption of the building.

  • Solar Panels

    Solar Panels

    Situated on the roof, solar panels collect solar energy and use it to heat water, which is used to provide for the hot water demands on the building, notably the catering facilities. The panels function in cloudy conditions, so it is not necessary to have actual sunshine – probably just as well really!

  • Low Energy Lighting

    Low Energy Lighting

    The lighting scheme for the building pioneers extensive use of revolutionary low energy LED lighting technology. The vast majority of lights in the suite are low energy fittings, significantly reducing energy requirements by up to a third, whilst also minimising replacement and disposal.

  • Light Motion Detectors

    PIR occupancy detection is installed in all relevant areas, so that lights are only on when spaces are occupied.

  • Solar Control

    Solar Control

    The main pitch-side glazed facade of the building faces south, offering spectacular views out to the pitch as well as a sunny aspect to the long external balcony. During winter, the solar gain from the low-angle sun helps to augment heating the space up. Glare is controlled with retractable blinds, which can also provide black-out conditions where required for events. During summer, the high-angle summer sun is shaded with external louvres located at roof level, above the balcony. This acts in tandem with special solar control glass, which reflects ultra-violet radiation whilst providing a high level of insulation to maintain the desired internal environment all year round.

    Super Insulation

    The insulation values for the entire external envelope of the building exceed current standards by 15%, again helping to minimise thermal losses and maximise energy efficiency, whilst maintaining the desired internal environment.

  • Environmental Conditioning

    Environmental Conditioning

    Providing the right environment for main events space in the most efficient way, a displacement ventilation system is used which provides conditioned fresh air at floor level through special diffusers, maximising comfort for occupants. The ‘used’ air naturally rises and is extracted at high level, creating an efficient airflow circuit, which is much more energy efficient than conventional ‘top-down’ air conditioning systems whilst also creating a higher quality internal environment for the events space.

    The doors are triple-skinned to keep the heat in. Also, waste hot water passes over the incoming cold water, to take it up to a temperature of 60 degrees.

  • Pressure Bratt Pans

    Pressure Bratt Pans

    Bratt pans can cook 200 portions of food in one go and these ones will take a third of the time a normal one would take as the lids are clamped tightly closed, thus providing pressurised cooking.

  • Monitoring


    One of the features to be built in for water and energy is visible usage data – thus we can supply figures pre- and post-event if required, and record consumption – a key element for any sustainable assessment scheme.

  • High Efficiency Hand-dryers

    In the toilets, energy efficient units to dry hands means no paper towels are needed. Minimum maintenance and a long life expectancy are plus points as well.

  • Urinals


    High efficiency/low water usage sanitary fittings have been specified in all locations throughout the building.

  • Recycling


    Recycling facilities have been installed both in public and service areas. The aim is to recycle as much waste as possible generated during the use of the building.

    Bike Racks have been installed under the main building for use by both guests and staff.

    We are delighted to supporting the local economy. Built into our purchasing policy is a clause which actively encourages local companies to compete in the purchasing process. Significant amounts of our food purchasing are done through local companies. We have also established a herb garden in the grounds for the kitchen to use on a daily basis.

  • Community Engagement

    We have an agreement with Stretford High School to form a long (20 years) partnership as part of the development of the area, to include work placements, mentoring, and input into the curriculum. The Club's official charity partner is The LCCC Foundation who are committed to community projects. The LCCC Foundation has worked in partnership with Trafford College, Job Centre Plus, Trafford COuncil and the National Careers Service, highlighting our commitment to social responsibility.
